8/27 has a great playing, of course, and so do many others before 7/1/73. But this is the first one, I think to reach the 25 minute mark, and I think it is at least a few touches more exploratory than anything before it, certainly anything in 1972. For the record, I think there are plenty of playin's even in '72 that beat 8/27.

that was the first one that came to my head. My point was in response to you saying that was the first one that went out there and all I'm saying is that Playin turned the corner in late 71 as a jam vehicle. Certainly there's no question that 73 could very well be the bands musical peak but I had to disagree with your statement that 7-1-73 was THE first. And as for length, 21 minutes vs. 25, I'd pretty much put that in the same category lengthwise
